Condom broke, a couple questions..?

I've never had this happen before it was so weird. Brand new condom, out of a brand new box. Good lubercation* (spell check) and everything seemed fine, he was on top and we heard a POP. I said what was that, he pulled out and the WHOLE top was split all the way down to the base! I asked him if it felt too snug he said it felt perfect as for sizing went. I have no idea what happened, not sure what to do now, he said he had pre alot in the condom but had not fully d. This was a couple of days ago, I've been googling it alot but wanted to say the situation and maybe someone would know why it'd randomly break? And what do I do now? I'm due to start my period in a week so is pregnancy not a concern since I'm past day 14 of my cycle?
