Lost! When Sayid shot young Ben did old Ben die?

On this week's episode, Sayid shot the younger Ben, and we know that Ben was hurt in the plane crash and is with Locke elsewhere on the island, and in a different time..because the Dharma buildings are abandoned...so do you think Ben died, because originally Ben was not shot when he was 12,he was working with the others around that time and annilated the Dharma people or was he and I missed that...? Any theories, and thoughts are welcome.
