I need some advice on getting a graphics tablet?

So some of my hobbies are making comics for websites, designing structures and basic drawing. However, all of these are seriously hampered because I keep messing up and having to erase, which ruins the quality. Also, by scanning each page and uploading them, the quality is even less. I was wondering if, by using a tablet, if it would alleviate these issues any. Also, what are some good beginner's tablets? I don't want to buy one that breaks the bank, since these are just hobbies that I want to do better. Any insight is greatly appreciated.
