What would a notary signer write (dealing with an I9 form)?

I don't see why you need a notary. I am an employer and have to fill out I-9 forms all of the time. I just have to check the persons Driver's License, Social Security Card, Pport or Birth Certificate (there is a list A and a list B and you have to have so many doents from each one, if memory serves me correctly a pport should be sufficient and I think it can even be expired). Who is telling you that it needs to be notarized? I do believe that the employer has to fill out the middle section for the employee and some businesses require copies of the doents.
